Word & Image booklet

Project Type

Editorial

Date

January 2025

Project Brief:
To develop an awareness of the relationship between words and images in graphic communication (specifically in a narrative sequence). To also consider what visual-compositional relationships mean within typographic design.

Design Solution:
I designed a booklet which focuses on the relationship between the words in the last letter Aldo Moro wrote to his wife and the photography took by journalists documenting the events of his kidnapping and murder. The 1970s Italian prime minister, Moro was kidnapped and eventually killed by the communist group known as the 'Red Brigades'. The leaflet utilises the colour scheme of the groups flag, yellow and red, and uses a typewriter typeface, along with a grain effect to give the booklet a newspaper aesthetic. The booklet starts with mystery and confusion surrounding the prime ministers disappearance, building up to the infamous car crash scene in the middle spread, and ends with mourning of Moro's wife as well as all of Italy.
